We are located at the quiet end of Subiaco in Western Australia. Our clinic space creates a warm atmosphere for families seeking psychological assistance. There is a dedicated room for child psychometric assessments which is bright and engaging. The rooms devoted to psychotherapy are calm and private for individual, family, or group counselling sessions. We look forward to welcoming you to our clinic.

Our Team

Karen King
Counselling Psychologist


Karen is our Principal Psychologist, who established Brainbox Psychology Clinic in 2014. She has completed a Master of Psychology at Curtin University, and is endorsed with the Psychology Board of Australia as a Counselling Psychologist. Karen has a particular passion for detailed psychological assessments that unravel the complexities associated with dyslexia, intellectual giftedness and attention problems. Karen’s therapeutic areas of interest include mother-baby mental health, child and adolescent social-emotional development and family relationship functioning.

Jenny Sandilands
Clinical Psychologist


Jenny has an impressive career track record offering psychotherapy to children and adolescents experiencing complex neurodevelopmental disorders and emotional health concerns. She has completed a Doctorate of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of Western Australia, and is endorsed with the Psychology Board of Australia as a Clinical Psychologist. Jenny enjoys using a strengths based approach to treatment of childhood anxiety, depression and adjustment disorders.

Kylie Crump
Educational and Developmental Psychologist


Kylie has completed a Master of Psychology (Educational) at the University of Melbourne, and is endorsed with the Psychology Board of Australia as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist.  Kylie has a special interest in peri- and post-natal mental health, and enjoys working with parents to assist in building a strong and healthy relationship with their child.

Aoife McNally
Educational and Developmental Psychologist


Aoife has completed a Master of Psychology (Educational & Developmental) at the University of Western Australia and is endorsed with the Psychology Board of Australia as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist.  Aoife has extensive experience assisting complex cases involving assessments of intellectual abilities and executive functioning.  She is a strong advocate for children’s needs within the school environment and enjoys working collaboratively with parents and educators.

Matthew Roberts
Counselling Psychology Registrar


Matthew has completed a Master of Psychology (Counselling Psychology) at Curtin University and is currently undertaking his PhD researching gender identity issues. Matthew holds full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.  He enjoys working with children, teenagers, and their families experiencing challenges with emotional regulation, peer social relationships, anxiety disorders, and mood difficulties. Matthew is skilled in his abilities to assist fathers build a healthy relationship with their partner and children.

Shanelle Valentine
Clinical Psychology Registrar


Shanelle has completed a Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) at Curtin University and holds full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.  She is currently undertaking further specialist training and mentoring to receive endorsement in clinical psychology.  Shanelle enjoys assisting children, adolescents, families and parents with a particular focus on promoting healthy social and emotional development across life. She also has expertise in conducting diagnostic assessments for students experiencing learning difficulties.

Rhianna Nolan, Madie James & Ash Jackson
Clinic Administrators


Rhianna, Madie and Ash are our Clinic Administrators who assist clients and support the team. They are all currently studying towards their undergraduate psychology degree.  Rhianna, Madie and Ash enjoy responding to new client enquiries regarding assessments and therapy.
