Fees for Counselling Consultations
The current fee recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) is $241 for a consultation of 46 to 60 minutes duration. For counselling consultations at Brainbox Psychology Clinic, we offer a reduced fee of $220 for child, adolescent, or family appointments.
A doctor’s referral is not necessary to access our counselling services. However, for individuals seeking a Medicare rebate, your General Practitioner (GP) is required to make a referral via the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This will require your GP to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan allowing a Medicare rebate for up to 10 counselling consultations per calendar year.
If you are not eligible for a Medicare rebate, some private health insurers offer a rebate, depending on your level of cover. You may wish to contact your insurer to enquire whether you can claim for psychology services through your private health insurance ancillary cover.
Fees for Psychological Assessments
A full psychological assessment for a child aged 6 to 16 years involves:
- Parent Initial Consultation – 50 minutes
- Cognitive (IQ) Assessment – 90 minutes
- Functional Assessment – 90 minutes
- Report Preparation – 150 minutes
- Parent Feedback Consultation – 50 minutes
Medicare or private health insurance funds typically do not offer a rebate for psychological assessments. In situations where previous psychometric testing has been completed, it may not be appropriate to undertake all of the above steps. Please phone 9388 9960 to discuss the unique needs for your child’s assessment and the associated fee.
