Child Counselling

Child Counselling Service

Children and adolescents can experience difficulties at critical phases of their life. We meet with parents each day who are eager to assist their child to overcome struggles.

Counselling targeted specifically for each individual child’s needs can help with difficulties such as:

  • School refusal
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Learning difficulties
  • Attention problems
  • Executive functioning delays
  • High functioning autism spectrum disorder (Asperger’s)
  • Bullying
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Grief and loss due to family bereavement, separation, or divorce.

When these difficulties arise, parents often don’t know where to look for assistance. It’s hard to know who to trust with the important task of counselling children.

Our Approach to Child Counselling

At Brainbox Psychology Clinic, our counselling approaches are informed by current scientific evidence. This means we only recommend strategies that have been shown by rigorous research to be most effective when counselling children and adolescents.

Our goal is to work together with parents and children to ensure everyone feels safe, has an opportunity to speak, be heard, and be understood. During the session, we focus on helping each child understand their unique strengths. We then build upon these strengths to boost emotional health, enhance social skills and improve behavioural functioning.

We understand that it’s essential for parents to have confidence when introducing changes in their family. So we concentrate on achievable goals that parents and children can action immediately. We also focus on what’s most important; creating a healthy parent-child relationship now and into the future.
